its University of Phoenix subsidiary increased 22% from the prior year.
FEDERATED INVESTORS INC (FII, 32.38)-
The investment management company announced a 3 for 2 stock split.
MICRON TECHNOLOGY INC (MU, 84.81)-
The memory chip maker beat estimates by 13 cents as it reported third
quarter earnings of 47 cents per share, compared to last year's loss of
five cents. Revenues increased 160%, and 30% sequentially, to $1.5
billion. The company's gross margin, excluding one-time adjustments,
slipped to 36% from 37% in the second quarter. The shares rallied 2
in after hours trading on the news.
TRUE TIME INC (TRUE, 4.38)- The
maker of precision timing devices warned that third quarter earnings will
fall short of expectations. The company now sees a breakeven
quarter, compared to analysts' estimates of a profit of seven cents.

BURR BROWN CORP (BBRC, 72.63)- The
maker of integrated circuits has agreed to be acquired by DSP maker Texas
Instruments (TXN, 87.25) for $7.6 billion in an all-stock deal.
Under the terms of the agreement, BBRC shareholders will receive 1.3
shares of TXN for each Burr Brown share held.

IDX SYSTEMS CORP (IDXC, 15.13)-
The maker of healthcare information systems warned that second quarter
earnings and revenues will fall short of expectations. The company
now sees second quarter revenues falling to $75-$80 million from last
year's $90.3 million. The company sees a loss of ($0.30)-($0.35),
compared to analysts expectations of a loss of 12 cents. The company
attributed the shortfall to weak conditions in the healthcare information
industry. The company also announced plans to cut 5% of its work
force.
LABOR READY INC (LRW, 7.88)- The
provider of staffing services warned that second quarter earnings will
fall short of expectations. The company now sees earnings of
$0.04-$0.06 in the quarter. Analysts were looking for 15
cents. The company sees second half sales growth of 13%-15%.
TRIARC COMPANIES (TRY, 20.25)-
The restaurant franchisor and beverage maker announced plans for an IPO of
its Snapple Beverage Group.

CNH GLOBAL (CNH, 11)- The
maker of agricultural and construction equipment warned that second
quarter and full year earnings will fall short of expectations. The
company said its second quarter and full year results will be
"moderately unprofitable". Analysts were looking for
second quarter earnings of 30 cents per share and full year earnings
of 45 cents per share. The company attributed the shortfall to
weakness in North America and Latin America.
DATA TRANSLATION INC (DATX, 5)- The
maker of machine vision products reported a second quarter loss of 17
cents per share, compared to last year's profit of seven cents.
Revenues slipped 3% to $3.96 million in the quarter.
EQUITY INNS INC (ENN, 7)- The
hotel REIT warned that full year funds from operations will fall short of
expectations. The company now sees FFO of $1.38 per share, compared
to analysts' estimates of $1.48. The company attributed the lowered
forecast to higher interest rates. The company also said it will
lower its quarterly dividend to 25 cents per share from the present 31
cents.
MAX & ERMA'S RESTAURANTS (MAXE,
8.94)- The operator of casual dining restaurants said its second
quarter earnings rose to 18 cents per share from last year's one cent.
Revenues increased 18% to $28.45 million in the quarter, and same
restaurant sales rose 4.2%.
MEADE INSTRUMENTS (MEAD, 29)- The
maker of telescopes and binoculars beat estimates by two cents as first
quarter earnings rose 20% to 12 cents per share. Revenues increased
33% to $22.8 million in the quarter.
THE TOPPS CO (TOPP, 11)- The
maker of collectible trading cards beat estimates by 14 cents as first
quarter earnings jumped to 62 cents per share from last year's 20 cents.
Revenues rose 70% to $144.3 million in the quarter.

COMPUTER SCIENCES CORP (CSC, 83.38)- The
IT consulting and services company has agreed to acquire Mynd (Policy
Management Systems, PMS, 10.94) for $16 per share in a $568 million
all-cash deal.

GADZOOX NETWORKS (ZOOX, 20.31)-
The maker of network storage products warned that first quarter revenues
will fall short of expectations. The company said its revenues could
be up to 33% below those of the fourth quarter.
MACROVISION CORP (MVSN, 72.38)-
The maker of software copy protection products has agreed to acquire
GLOBEtrotter Software Inc in exchange for 8.9 million shares of MVSN in a
deal valued at $644 million.
MICRON ELECTRONICS (MUEI, 12.06)- The
PC maker and provider of web hosting services beat estimates by two cents
as its third quarter earnings fell to five cents per share, excluding
charges, from last year's seven cents. Revenues in the quarter
increased 13% to $370 million, reversing eight straight quarters of
falling revenues. PC gross margins slipped to 13.1% from 13.4% in
the second quarter.
SEAGRAM CO LTD (VO, 64)- The
drinks and entertainment company has agreed to merge with France's Vivendi
in a $34 billion all-stock deal. Under the terms of the deal,
Seagram shareholders will receive $77.35 worth of Vivendi stock for each
VO share held. Vivendi has also agreed to acquire the remaining
shares of French cable giant Canal+. The merged entertainment company will
be known as Vivendi Universal. The company called Seagram's spirits
business a non-core asset, and said it would seek to maximize shareholder
value in seeking the disposition of these assets.

BLIMPIE INTERNATIONAL (BLM, 1.68)- The
sandwich restaurant franchisor said May same store sales increased 6.3%.
CENDANT CORP (CD, 13.50)- The
provider of consumer and business services sait it has decided to postpone
a planned offering of shares in its Move.com unit due to "current
market conditions".
CRITICAL PATH INC (CPTH, 49.88)- The
provider of outsourced e-mail management services has agreed to acquire
Netmosphere, a provider of project collaboration services, in an all-stock
deal valued at $40 million.
EDISON SCHOOLS INC (EDSN, 24.03)-
The school operator announced plans for a secondary offering of 2.5
million shares, with all of the shares being sold by existing
shareholders. The company currently has 42.6 million shares
outstanding.
KOGER EQUITY INC (KE, 17.68)- The
developer of office parks will take a $7.9 million restructuring charge to
cover the costs of a management reorganization that will eliminate 13
jobs. The company expects the move to reduce second quarter earnings
by 26 cents per share.
PREMIER CONCEPTS INC (FAUX, 5.50)-
The jewelry retailer said its first quarter loss narrowed to 21 cents per
share from last year's loss of 24 cents. Revenues in the quarter
slipped to $2.65 million from last year's $2.82 million, but same store
sales increased 2.5%.
RALCORP HOLDINGS INC (RAH, 12.50)-
The maker of store brand foods has agreed to acquire private label food
maker The Red Wing Co Inc from Tomkins Plc for $132.5 million in cash.
SEMITOOL INC (SMTL, 18.38)- The
semiconductor equipment maker announced plans for a secondary offering of
4.1 million shares, with 1.064 million of the shares being sold by
existing shareholders. The company currently has 28.3 million shares
outstanding.
