ALZA CORP (AZA, 40.25)- The drugmaker beat estimates by a penny as its fourth quarter earnings jumped 92.3% to 25 cents per share.  Revenues in the quarter increased 42.9% to $275.9 million

BROADVISION INC (BVSN, 14.88)- The maker of e-business software missed estimates by three cents as its fourth quarter earnings slipped to two cents per share from last year's three cents.  Revenues in the quarter increased to $136.9 million from last year's $43.7 million.

AKAMAI TECHNOLOGY (AKAM, 35.63)- The provider of Internet content delivery services beat estimates by seven cents as its fourth quarter loss widened to 61 cents per share from the third quarter's loss of 60 cents.  Revenues in the quarter jumped 37% sequentially to $37.2 million.  The shares are up 3.12 in pre-open trading on the news.

EXODUS COMMUNICATIONS (EXDS, 28.19)- The provider of Internet hosting services beat estimates by four cents as its fourth quarter loss narrowed to 13 cents per share from last year's loss of 14 cents.  Revenues in the quarter jumped 177%, and 22% sequentially, to $280.4 million.  The company warned that it sees a first quarter loss of ($0.26)-($0.27) per share.  Analysts were looking for the company to lose 17 cents.  The company attributed the lowered forecast to weakness among pure play Internet companies.  The shares are down 3.44 in pre-open trading on the news.

KANA COMMUNICATIONS (KANA, 9.43)- The maker of enterprise relationship management software missed estimates by 17 cents as its fourth quarter loss widened to 37 cents per share from last year's loss of 23 cents.  Revenues in the quarter jumped 557% to $42.4 million.  The shares are down 29% to 6.68 in pre-open trading on the news.

OSHKOSH TRUCK CORP (OTRKB, 48)- The truck maker met estimates as its fiscal first quarter earnings rose 4.4% to 48 cents per share.  Revenues in the quarter increased 15.6% to $282 million.

PC CONNECTION INC (PCCC, 20)- The computer products direct marketer beat estimates by a penny as its fourth quarter earnings fell to 22 cents per share from last year's 31 cents.  Revenues in the quarter increased 6.3% to $345.1 million, but gross margins fell to 11.9% from last year's 12.3%.

SANDISK CORP (SNDK, 46.19)- The maker of flash memory products beat estimates by four cents as its fourth quarter earnings rose 147% to 37 cents per share.  Revenues in the quarter increased 115% to $178 million, but fell short of analysts' estimates of $202 million.  The company warned that it expects first quarter revenues to drop 15%-20% sequentially and sees earnings flat with last year's 21 cents.  Analysts were looking for first quarter earnings of 33 cents.  The company said the weakness may last into the second quarter.  The shares have tumbled 10.51 in pre-open trading on the news.

VERISIGN INC (VRSN, 81.50)- The provider of Internet security products and domain name registrations beat estimates by 10 cents as its fourth quarter earnings rose to 21 cents per share from last year's four cents.  Revenues in the quarter rose 613% to $197.4 million.  The shares are down 6.50 in pre-open trading on the news.

COHERENT INC (COHR, 44.75)- The maker of photonics products beat estimates by six cents as its fiscal first quarter earnings jumped 65.4% to 43 cents per share.  Revenues in the quarter rose 21% to $154.5 million, and bookings increased 40% to $188.4 million.  The company said its order backlog jumped 91% to $207.7 million. Gross margins rose to 49.3% from last year's 48.4%. The shares rose 4.25 in after hours trading on the news.

LAM RESEARCH (LRCX, 22)- The semiconductor equipment maker beat estimates by five cents as its second quarter earnings increased 107% to 58 cents per share.  Revenues in the quarter jumped 71%, and 14% sequentially, to $494.3 million.  Gross margins rose to 46.7% from last year's 43.5%.  The company said it sees third quarter earnings of $0.50-$0.54 per share, compared to analysts' expectations of 54 cents.  The shares jumped 2.88 in after hours trading on the news.

LSI LOGIC (LSI, 23.69)- The chipmaker met expectations as its fourth quarter earnings rose 47.8% to 34 cents per share.  Revenues in the quarter increased 28%, and 3% sequentially, to $751 million.  The company warned that it expects fourth quarter revenues to fall 12% sequentially and sees earnings of 21 cents per share.  Analysts were looking for the company to earn 34 cents.

SARA LEE CORP (SLE, 22.77)- The consumer products maker met expectations as its second quarter earnings rose 7.5% to 43 cents per share.  Revenues in the quarter increased 3% to $4.8 billion.  The company warned that it sees third quarter earnings of $0.26-$0.29 per share.  Analysts were looking for the company to earn 31 cents.

SERVICEMASTER (SVM, 11.75)- The provider of lawn care and pest control services missed estimates by a penny as its fourth quarter earnings fell to 11 cents per share from last year's 17 cents.  Revenues in the quarter fell 3% to $1.4 billion.  The company attributed the profit shortfall to severe weather.  The company warned that full year 2001 earnings will be $0.61-$0.65 per share, compared to analysts' estimates of 69 cents.

AUTOZONE INC (AZO, 28.56)- The auto parts retailer warned that second quarter earnings will fall short of expectations.  The company now sees earnings of 28 cents per share, compared to analysts' estimates of 32 cents.  The company attributed the shortfall to slower than expected sales due to economic weakness and higher gas prices.

DENTSPLY INTERNATIONAL XRAY, 35.50)- The maker of dental products met expectations as its fourth quarter earnings rose 9.9% to 59 cents per share.  Revenues in the quarter increased 5.1% to $234.4 million.

DRUGSTORE.COM (DSCM, 2.63)- The online drugstore said it will cut 20% of its workforce, or 125 jobs.  The company expects $20 million in annual cost savings from the move.

FNB CORP (FNBN, 12.75)- The North Carolina bank holding company missed estimates by a penny as fourth quarter earnings rose 5.2% to 29 cents per share.

KAYE GROUP INC (KAYE, 7.88)- The insurance brokerage has agreed to be acquired by insurer Hub Group Ltd for $14 per share in a $115 million cash and debt deal.  Under the terms of the deal, KAYE shareholders will receive $9.33 per share in cash and $4.67 per share in Hub Group convertible debentures.

LYONDELL CHEMICAL CO (LYO, 15.13)- The chemical company warned that it will report a larger than expected fourth quarter loss due to slowing economic conditions and higher natural gas prices.  The company now sees a loss of 40 cents per share, compared to analysts' estimates of a loss of 23 cents.

NEW CENTURY FINANCIAL (NCEN, 8.38)- The specialty mortgage company warned that it now expects to report a fourth quarter loss, compared to previous estimates of a profit of $0.30-$0.35 per share.  The company attributed the shortfall to lower interest rates and a slower economy.

QUANEX CORP (NX, 18.25)- The metals fabricator warned that first quarter earnings will fall short of expectations.  The company now sees earnings of $0.20-$0.25 per share.  Analysts were looking for the company to earn 31 cents.
