ALLAIRE
CORP (ALLR, 63)- The software maker reported a narrower than expected
second quarter loss of 2 cents a share excluding charges, compared to
estimates of a 4 cent loss. Revenues rose 172% to $13.1 million in
the quarter.
CANNONDALE (BIKE, 11)- The
mountain bike maker warned that equipment problems at a manufacturing
facility will cause fourth quarter earnings and revenues to fall short of
expectations. The company sees a $3 million revenue shortfall and
earnings of 10 cents a share in the quarter. Analysts were looking
for a 24 cent profit.
CNET INC (CNET, 51.88)- The
Internet company beat second quarter estimates by 6 cents, earning 11
cents a share. Revenues rose 92% to $25.6 million.
CYPRUS AMAX MINERALS (CYM, 14.56)-
The copper producer will merge with Asarco in a $2.3 billion deal.
The new company will be called Asarco Cyprus and will be the world's
largest copper producer.
HORACE MANN EDUCATORS (HMN, 28.94)-
The insurer warned that second quarter earnings will be below
expectations. The company sees 34 cents a share in the quarter,
compared to estimates of 50 cents. The company cited higher than
expected claims for the shortfall.
SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY (SEG, 30)- The
disk drive maker missed estimates by 5 cents, earning 30 cents a share in
its fiscal fourth quarter. The company also warned that weak
industry wide demand and pricing pressures will continue into its first
and second quarters.
TEXAS INSTRUMENTS (TXN, 153.25)-
The chip maker announced a 2 for 1 stock split.

ADVANCED
MICRO DEVICES (AMD, 18)- The chip maker posted a narrower than expected second
quarter loss of $1.10 a share, compared to estimates of a loss of $1.30. The company
also announced that its president and heir apparent, S. Atiq Raza, has resigned due to
personal reasons.
APPLE COMPUTER
(AAPL, 55.94)- The computer maker beat third quarter estimates by 5 cents,
earning 69 cents a share, a 52% increase from last year's third quarter. Revenues
rose 11% to $1.56 billion in the quarter, and gross margins improved to 27.4% from 25.7%.
The company reported unit growth of 40%, compared to the industry wide average of
21%. The company also said it plans to buy back $500 million of its shares.
ARIS CORP (ARSC, 8.63)- The software
services company warned that second quarter earnings will be below expectations. The
company sees 4 to 7 cents a share in the quarter, analysts were looking for 17 cents.
The company blamed a slowdown in its U.S. training business for the shortfall.
CYBERCASH (CYCH, 12.75)- The company
warned that it will report a widen than expected second quarter loss of 53 to 56 cents a
share. Analysts were looking for a loss of 37 cents. The company cited lower
than expected revenues from its new InstaBuy and Agile Wallet payment systems for the
wider than expected loss forecast.
ELECTRONICS FOR IMAGING (EFII, 58.13)-
The company beat second quarter estimates by 8 cents a share, earning 42 cents in the
quarter, a 31% increase. Revenues rose 13% to $136 million in the quarter.
INKTOMI CORP (INKT, 128.88)- The Internet
software maker reported a narrower than expected third quarter loss of 10 cents, beating
expectations by 2 cents. Revenues rose 212% to $19.6 million in the quarter, and 34%
sequentially.
LANDAMERICA FINANCIAL GROUP (LFG, 28.25)-
The insurer warned that second quarter earnings will be $0.78-$0.88, compared to estimates
of $1.25. The insurer also sees full year earnings below current analysts estimates. The
company cited a shift in revenues to lower margin business and higher personnel costs for
the disappointing forecast.
MCKESSON HBOC (MCK, 31)- The company
warned that its fiscal year 2000 first quarter earnings will fall "significantly
short" of current analysts' estimates of a 51 cent profit. The drug wholesaler
also restated its results for fiscal 1997, 1998, and 1999. Revenues were revised
down $245.8 million for fiscal 1999, and earnings were lowered by 53 cents a share.
RAWLINGS SPORTING GOODS (RAWL, 9.68)- The
sporting goods company reported third quarter earnings of 4 cents a share excluding
charges, compared to estimates of a 20 cent profit. Revenues inched up to $46.61
million from last year's $46.2 million.
SANDISK CORP (SNDK, 54.38)- The flash
memory maker beat estimates by 4 cents, earning 19 cents a share in its second quarter.
Revenues rose 68%, and 19% sequentially, to $52.5 million in the quarter.
US AIRWAYS GROUP (U, 44.31)- The airline
warned that its third and fourth quarter earnings would be below expectations. The
company blamed higher fuel costs and lower than expected revenues for the shortfall.
ZIFF DAVIS (ZD, 14.19)- The publisher of
computer magazines said it is considering strategic alternatives to enhance shareholder
value, including the sale of the company.

DIGITAL LINK
(DLNK, 10.25)- The maker of network access products beat second quarter estimates
by 3 cents, earning 11 cents a share in the quarter. Net sales rose 22% to $15.62
million in the quarter.
GARDEN RIDGE
(GRDG, 6)- The home decor retailer warned that an inventory reduction program
will reduce its fiscal second quarter earnings by 11 cents a share.
INTEL CORP (INTC, 65.38)- The chip maker
missed estimates by 2 cents, earning 51 cents a share in its second quarter, an increase
of 49%. Revenues rose 14% from last year's second quarter, but fell 5% sequentially
to $6.7 billion. Analysts were expecting revenues to rise 18%. The company
blamed the weaker than expected results on pricing pressures and seasonal weakness.
The shares rose 1 point in after hours after the company forecast a strong second half and
said it saw gross margins improving to 60%.
MOTOROLA (MOT, 96.5)- The company earned
44 cents a share in its second quarter, beating estimates by 3 cents but missing the
whisper number by 1 cent. Revenues rose a less than expected 7% to $7.5 billion in the
quarter. The shares fell 2 in after hours trading on the lower than expected revenue
numbers and a warning that the company may be forced to take a third quarter charge if the
situation at 18% owned Iridium continues to deteriorate.
NORFOLK SOUTHERN (NSC, 29.5)- The
railroad operator warned that second quarter earnings will be below expectations.
The company sees 18 to 22 cents a share in the quarter, analysts were looking for 35
cents. The company cited higher than expected costs related to the integration of
Conrail and sees the problems continuing into the third quarter.
THREE FIVE SYSTEMS (TFS, 16.68)- The LCD
maker reported second quarter earnings of 15 cents a share, beating expectations by 10
cents. Revenues rose 39% to $31.6 million in the quarter. The company's gross
margin improved to 20.6% in the quarter from 12.4% in the first quarter.
WHIRLPOOL (WHR, 70.81)- The appliance
maker reported a 23% rise in second quarter earnings to $1.30 a share, beating
expectations by 6 cents. Revenues rose 1% to $2.6 billion in the quarter. The
company expects conditions in the appliance industry to strengthen in the second half.

AMGEN INC (AMGN,
66.31)- The biotech company earned 50 cents a share in its second quarter, an
increase of 22%, beating estimates by 4 cents. Revenues rose 21% to $738 million in
the quarter. The company expects full year earnings of $1.90-$1.95, compared to
analysts' estimates of $1.85. The company also said it will file for approval for
its II-1ra arthritis drug by the end of the year, earlier than had been expected.
The shares jumped 6.63 in after hours trading on the news.
BOC GROUP PLC (BOX, 42.56)- Air Products and
Chemicals, and AirLiquide SA will buy the industrial gas supplier for $11.2 billion, with
the 2 companies splitting BOC's assets. Air Products will get the group's Australian
and New Zealand assets, and 50% of its U.S. assets.
CONOCO (COC, 26.63)- The oil company will
join the SP 500 after the close on August 6th, replacing Battle Mountain Gold, which will
be dropped from the index.
CORPORATE EXPRESS (CEXP, 8.56)- The
office products distributor has agreed to be bought by Buhrmann NV for $9.70 a share in a
$2.3 billion deal. Buhrmann expects annual synergies of $100 million from the deal.
DOUBLECLICK (DCLK, 94)- The Internet ad
agency said second quarter revenues rose 154% to $44 million.
FLOWERS INDUSTRIES (FLO, 21.38)- The
bakery warned that second quarter and full year estimates will be below expectations due
to a restructuring at its Mrs. Smiths unit. The company sees 10 cents a share in the
second quarter, and $0.98-$1.05 for the full year. Analysts were looking for 20
cents in the quarter and $1.18 for the full year.
INTERGRAPH (INGR, 6.31)- The company
warned that weakness in the worldwide computer hardware industry will result in a $25
million revenue shortfall. The company expects the lower than expected second
quarter revenues to have a "significant adverse effect" on second quarter
earnings. Analysts were looking for a breakeven quarter.
LASER VISION CENTERS (LVCI, 67.5)- The
company announced a 2 for 1 stock split.
NETGRAVITY INC (NETG, 27.5)- The company
will be acquired by DoubleClick in a $530 million deal.

CONEXANT SYSTEMS
(CNXT, 61.5)- The company will join the NASDAQ 100 Index on July 14th.
EBAY (EBAY, 135.75)- The company suffered an outage on
Saturday, its first since June 29th. eBay's latest outage occurred one day after
online broker E*Trade was beset by technical difficulties.
GBC BANCORP (GBCB, 21.31)- The bank beat
second quarter estimates by 2 cents, earning 53 cents a share in the quarter.
The company earned 48 cents in last year's second quarter. Total deposits
grew 4.1% to $1.437 billion.
GENERAL MOTORS (GM, 68.43)- The auto
maker has been ordered to pay 6 people injured in a 1993 car crash $4.9 billion in damages
after losing a California product liability suit. The company plans to
appeal the decision. The stock fell 2 1/4 in after hours trading on the
news.
INFOSEEK (SEEK, 51.5)- Disney will buy
the remaining shares of the Internet portal. Infoseek shareholders will receive 1.15
shares of a new company to be called go.com.
INPRISE CORP (INPR, 5)- The software
maker warned that it sees a wider than expected second quarter loss of $0.17-$0.22 a
share, compared to estimates of a 12 cent loss. The company sees revenues declining
to $38-$41 million in the quarter from $46.5 million last year.
MORRISON KNUDSEN (MK, 10.13)- The company
beat second quarter estimates by 6 cents, earning 26 cents a share, an increase of 9 cents
from last year. The company's backlog increased to $3.1 billion from $2.7 billion.
Revenues increased to $568 million from $436 million last year. The shares
should get a lift from the news in today's trading.
RED ROOF INNS (RRI, 18.31)- France's
Accor has offered to buy the operator of economy hotels for $22.75 a share in a $1.1
billion deal. The deal will be accretive to Accor's earnings.
TRIPOS INC (TRPS, 7.68)- The medical
software maker warned that its second quarter earnings and revenues will be below
expectations. The company sees 11% revenue growth and a loss of 36 cents a share
compared to analysts' estimates of a 4 cent loss.
UROCOR INC (UCOR, 5)- The company warned
that it will report a second quarter loss and will take a $7-$7.5 million restructuring
charge. Analysts were looking for a 2 cent profit.
WORLD COLOR PRESS (WRC, 29.81)- Quebecor
Printing has agreed to acquire the company for $35.69 a share, a 20% premium to Friday's
closing price, in a $2.7 billion merger. The new company will be called Quebecor
World. Quebecor sees $50 million in annual cost savings from the deal.
