7-ELEVEN INC (SE, 9.81)- The
convenience store operator warned that fourth quarter earnings will fall
short of expectations. The company now sees earnings of $0.09-$0.12
per share, compared to analysts' expectations of 17 cents. The
company attributed the shortfall to higher wholesale gasoline costs.
CHIRON CORP (CHIR, 38.13)- The
biotech will join the S&P 500 Index on an as yet undetermined date.
MEDTRONIC INC (MDT, 49.56)- The
maker of coronary stents met expectations as its second quarter earnings
rose 23.8% to 26 cents per share. Revenues in the quarter increased
14.4% to $1.361 billion. The company said revenue at its vascular
unit jumped 35% to $215 million.
NETIA HOLDINGS SA (NTIA, 16.75)-
The Polish telecom said third quarter revenues rose 8.7% sequentially to
$25.09 million. The company said third quarter EBITDA fell 45.6%
sequentially from the second quarter.
TRANSMEDIA NETWORK INC (TMN, 3)-
The operator of membership rewards programs said its fourth quarter loss
narrowed to five cents per share, excluding charges, from last year's loss
of 10 cents, excluding charges. Revenues in the quarter fell 7% to
$11.7 million.
WESTVACO CORP (W, 28)- The maker
of paper and packaging products beat estimates by five cents as its fourth
quarter earnings rose 37% to 78 cents per share. Revenues in the
quarter jumped 34% to $1 billion.
