APPLIX INC (APLX,
3.75)- The software maker beat estimates by 18 cents as it reported a
third quarter loss of 20 cents per share, compared to last year's profit
of seven cents. Revenues in the quarter fell to $14.57 million from
last year's $8.36 million, and gross margins slid to 65.2% from last
year's 72.4%. The shares have surged 44% to 5.43 in after hours trading on
news of the smaller than expected loss.
AUTOWEB.COM INC (AWEB, 1.03)- The
Internet automotive web site missed estimates by 15 cents as its third
quarter loss widened to 29 cents per share from last year's loss of 16
cents. Revenues in the quarter rose 36.9%, but fell 24.3%
sequentially, to $11.5 million.
CIRCUIT CITY STORES (CC, 21)- The
consumer electronics retailer warned that fourth quarter earnings will
fall short of expectations due to a decline in same store sales. The
company now sees earnings of 79 cents per share, compared to analysts'
expectations of 96 cents.
MERCATOR SOFTWARE (MCTR, 12.25)-
The maker of e-business integration software missed estimates by 23 cents
as it reported a third quarter loss of 14 cents per share, compared to
last year's profit of eight cents. Revenues in the quarter rose
20.5% to $32.2 million. The shares tumbled 5.50 to 6.75 in after
hours trading on the news.
OPEN MARKET (OMKT, 3.13)- The
provider of Internet content server software missed estimates by four
cents as its third quarter loss widened to 29 cents per share, excluding
gains, from last year's loss of six cents. Revenues in the quarter
increased 8.3% to $22.3 million.
TICKETMASTER ONLINE-CITYSEARCH INC (TMCS,
12.06)- The provider of online ticketing and city search services beat
estimates by two cents as its third quarter loss narrowed to 11 cents per
share from last year's 17 cents. Revenues in the quarter jumped 108%
to $57.06 million.

3D SYSTEMS CORP (TDSC,
18.13)- The maker of solid imaging products beat estimates by three
cents as it reported third quarter earnings of 21 cents per share,
compared to last year's loss of nine cents. Revenues in the quarter
rose 24% to $29.5 million, and the company's gross profit margin rose to
49% from last year's 42%.
CHASE MANHATTAN CORP (CMB, 38)- The
financial services company missed estimates by 27 cents as its third
quarter earnings slid to 68 cents per share from last year's 92
cents. Revenues in the quarter increased 3% to $5.59 billion.
The company attributed the shortfll to unrealized write-downs on
securities, and a sequential drop in trading revenues and investment
banking fees.
EASTMAN KODAK (EK, 36.43)- The
imaging company's third quarter results beat lowered expectations by three
cents as it earned $1.40 per share, compared to last year's $1.45.
Revenues in the quarter inched up to $3.59 billion from last year's $3.58
billion. The company warned that fourth quarter earnings will fall short
of expectations. The company now sees earnings of $1.00-$1.15 per share in
the fourth quarter, compared to analysts' estimates of $1.24
MICHAELS STORES (MIKE, 35.43)-
The arts and crafts retailer warned that third quarter earnings will fall
short of expectations. The company now sees earnings of 40 cents per
share. Analysts were looking for the company to earn 45 cents.
The company blamed "general economic conditions and
uncertainties" for the shortfall. The shares fell 6.43 in
pre-open trading on the news.
PALM HARBOR HOMES (PHHM, 12.50)-
The maker of manufactured homes said its second quarter earnings fell to
34 cents per share from last year's 45 cents. Revenues in the
quarter fell 9.2% to $175.8 million. The company said it sees weak
industry conditions lasting into the third and fourth quarters.

ALASKA AIR GROUP (ALK, 21)- The
airline missed estimates by 28 cents as its third quarter earnings tumbled
to 60 cents per share from last year's $2.07. Revenues in the
quarter rose 2.2% to $602 million. The company attributed the lower
earnings to sharply higher oil costs.
BROADVISION INC (BVSN, 23.81)- The
e-commerce software maker will join the S&P 500 Index after next
Monday's close. The shares surged 24.9% to 29.74 in after hours
trading on the news.
COBALT NETWORKS (COBT, 56.31)- The
maker of Internet server appliances beat estimates by five cents as its
third quarter loss narrowed to a penny per share, excluding charges, from
last year's loss of 20 cents. Revenues in the quarter rose 229%, and
25% sequentially, to $20.4 million. The shares fell 4 points in
after hours trading on the news.
CORR THERAPEUTICS (CORR, 52)- The
pharmaceutical maker beat estimates by four cents as it reported a third
quarter loss of two cents per share, compared to last year's profit of one
cent. Revenues climbed to $29.91 million from last year's $23.47
million.
FREESHOP.COM INC (FSHP, 2.06)-
The Internet direct marketing network beat estimates by two cents as its
third quarter loss narrowed to 22 cents per share from last year's 42
cents. Revenues jumped 135% to $5.6 million. The company's
cash position fell to $21.2 million from $33.8 million on December
31st. The company said it will change its name to Aptimus Inc.
LIFEMINDERS.COM (LFMN, 11.31)-
The provider of Internet direct marketing products beat estimates by seven
cents as its third quarter loss narrowed to 17 cents per share from last
year's loss of 46 cents. Revenues in the quarter increased 268%, and
14% sequentially, to $16.7 million. The company said its membership
rose 15% sequentially to 19.5 million. The shares rose 0.69 in after
hours trading on the news.
POLARIS INDUSTRIES (PII, 33)- The
maker of snowmobiles and personal watercraft beat estimates by two cents
as its third quarter earnings rose 13% to $1.24 per share. Revenues
in the quarter increased 2.1% to $397 million.
SCHLUMBERGER LTD (SLB, 80)- The
oil services company beat estimates by a penny as its third quarter
earnings jumped 75% to 35 cents per share. Revenues in the quarter
rose to $2.45 billion from last year's $2.09 billion.

CALIFORNIA MICRO DEVICES (CAMD, 12)- The
maker of microwave filtering devices postponed plans for a secondary
offering of 1.5 million shares.
CHEVRON CORP (CHV, 84.25)- The
oil company is reportedly considering a $35 billion merger with Texaco
Inc (TX, 55.13). Under the terms of the deal, TX shareholders
would receive 0.77 CHV shares for each TX share held.

bank beat estimates by six cents as its third quarter earnings rose 37.1%
to 85 cents per share.
INFOUSA INC (IUSA, 3.68)- The
provider of consumer information products reported a third quarter loss of
15 cents per share, compared to last year's profit of two cents.
Revenues in the quarter inched up 1% to $75.89 million.
STRATASYS INC (SSYS, 5.94)- The
maker of rapid prototyping systems warned that third quarter results will
fall short of previous forecasts due to weak European sales. The
company now sees revenues flat at slightly over $9 million, and expects to
report a profit of $0.03-$0.05 per share. Analysts were looking for
the company to earn 15 cents.
