CERNER (CERN,
15.06)- The company warned that it will miss first
quarter revenue and earnings targets. Cerner expects to earn $0.07-$0.09 in the
quarter, compared to current analysts' estimates of 16 cents a share. The healthcare
information company cited deferred purchasing decisions for the revenue shortfall.
The shares will fall on the news. ENDOSONICS
(ESON, 7.25)- The medical device maker warned that
it will miss first quarter estimates by 2 cents a share. The company blamed slower
than expected product rollout and regulatory delays in Japan for the shortfall. The
company expects growth to be below expectations for the remainder of the year.
E.SPIRE COMMUNICATIONS (ESPI, 12.56)- The company received a favorable mention in this week's Business Week.
An analyst called the shares undervalued and considers the company a takeover
target. The shares will rise on the story in today's trading. The 52 week high
on this one is 23 3/8.
ITURF (TURF, -)- The Internet company's IPO was priced at $22 a share last night, up from
an expected range of $10-$12 earlier this week.
LAIDLAW (LDW, 7)- The company's second quarter earnings met analysts' expectations of 12
cents a share, but tumbled 34% from the prior year. The school bus operator also
announced that it will cut 2% of its workforce in a planned restructuring. The
shares continue to represent good value, and are trading on a forward P/E ratio of 10,
with a price/sales ratio of 0.66 and a price/book ratio of 0.70.
MEDTRONIC (MDT, 70.88)- The medical device maker received FDA approval for its new coronary
stent device. The shares should get a boost on the news.
THEGLOBE.COM (TGLO, 59)- The free web space provider announced a 2 for 1 stock split after
the close on Thursday and the shares promptly jumped 15 1/2 points in after hours trading.
The shares will likely continue their ascent today.
VISUAL NETWORKS (VNWK, 39.25)- The software maker's first quarter earnings beat estimates by 2 ents a
share. Revenues rose 63% to $16.8 million in the quarter.
VITESSE SEMICONDUCTOR (VTSS, 57.63)- The company's second quarter earnings beat estimates by 1 cent a share
as revenues jumped 66%. The company cited continued strength in its communications
business for the better than expected results. |

ADVANCED MICRO
DEVICES (AMD, 16.19)- Chipmaker AMD warned that
first quarter revenues will fall to $630 million, compared with $789 million in the fourth
quarter. The company blamed the shortfall on production problems and continued
pricing pressure resulting from its battle with Intel for the CPU market lead. The
stock has been and will remain under pressure. ALLEGHENY TELEDYNE (ALT, 20.06)- The company warned that it will miss analysts' first quarter estimates
by 2 cents a share. The specialty metals company cited pricing pressures and slowing
European economic growth for the shortfall.
AMERICAN EAGLE OUTFITTERS (AEOS, 76.88)- The company reported a 33.1% increase in March same store sales as total
sales during the period rose 50.6% to $63.8 million. The shares will rise on the
news.
ASIA PULP & PAPER (PAP, 7.5)- The paper producer reported a 59% increase in fourth quarter earnings as
revenues rose 8% to $636 in the quarter.
CELESTIAL SEASONINGS (CTEA, 20.75)- the tea maker warned that second quarter earnings will be 28 cents a
share, compared to expectations of 41 cents. Sales fell to $31.6 million in the
quarter from the prior year's $32.3 million. The company expects revenues and
earnings to increase in the second half of its fiscal year. The shares will fall on
the news.
FORWARD AIR (FWRD, 13.5)- The freight handler expects first quarter earnings of $0.21-$0.23,
topping analysts' estimates of 13 cents a share. The company cited strong freight
volume for the better than expected showing.
HNC Software (HNCS, 27.23)- The company warned that it will miss first quarter earnings estimates by
5 to 7 cents a share and revenues will fall 9-10% below current expectations due to slower
than expected results at its Insurance Solutions Group. The shares will come under
heavy pressure today.
IN FOCUS SYSTEMS (INFS, 8.5)- The company beat first quarter estimates of 4 cents with a profit of 12
cents a (diluted) share in its first quarter as revenues rose to $86.5 million in the
quarter.
MANUGISTICS (MANU, 6.75)- The software maker reported a loss of $0.72 a share in its fourth
quarter as revenues tumbled to $40.5 million from the prior year's $63.3 million.
Estimates were for a loss of 51 cents a share. The shares are already down from a 52
week high of 66 3/8.
PLAYBOY ENTERPRISES (PLA, 25.56)- The publisher warned that it will record a loss in its first quarter due
to losses in its online business. The company expects full year results to beat last
year's.
WIND RIVER SYSTEMS (WIND, 11.88)- The company said shipment delays of its software products would cause it
to miss first quarter revenue estimates.
YAHOO (YHOO, 208.43)- The acquisitive Internet portal beat first quarter estimates by 3 cents
a share (excluding charges) as revenues increased to $86.1 million. The Internet
sector which spent Wednesday on pins and needles waiting for these numbers, will likely
rally on the better than expectd results this morning. YHOO shares rose 3 1/2 in
after hours trading. |

CBS (CBS, 43.68)- The stock rose to an all time high Tuesday on rumors that AOL would buy
the company and that the deal would be announced at a press conference on Wednesday.
Some of the air is likely to be let out of the stock today following news that the
two media companies holding a press conference are BMG and Universal, and not CBS-AOL as
had been rumored. DATA DIMENSIONS
(DDIM, 4.13)- The company warned that first quarter
earnings will be $0.09-$0.12 a share, compared to expectations of 21 cents a share.
Revenues will be unchanged from fourth quarter levels of $30-$33 million according to the
company.
DOLLAR TREE STORES (DLTR, 34.75)- The company reported that first quarter sales rose 26% to $221.1 million
and same store sales rose 5.4% in the quarter.
FVC.Com (FVCX, 17.38)- The video company warned that it will lose 20-22 cents a share in its
first quarter, compared to estimates of a gain of 3 cents a share. The company cited
a significant drop in sales of its videoconferencing equipment to its largest customer for
the shortfall. FVCX also announced it will restate fourth quarter earnings.
Expect the stock to be hit hard this morning.
HYPERION SOLUTIONS (HYSL, 12.89)- The software maker warned that it will report lower than expected third
quarter earnings and operating margins due to slower than expected revenue growth.
The company operates in the enterprise software market which has been hard hit of late by
a slowdown in corporate spending.
INFOSPACE.COM (INSP, 89.63)- The company will split its shares 2 for 1. Look for the usual
stock split chasers to run the stock up on the news.
NETWORK ASSOCIATES (NETA, 21.94)- The company warned that a Y2K related revenue slowdown will cause it to
report first quarter earnings below current estimates. The shares fell 25% during
yesterday's trading, and will likely remain under pressure today.
RYDER SYSTEMS (R, 24)- The trucking company warned that first quarter profits will be lower
than current forecasts. The truck leaser cited higher costs, weakness in Brazil and
the U.K., and higher than expected Y2K expenditures for the shortfall.
WATSON PHARMACEUTICALS (WPI, 42.19)- The drug maker will rise on the news that it will join the S&P 500
on April 9th. |

ALLIED HOLDINGS
(AHI, 9.38)- The trucking company warned that
inclement weather, fewer vehicles delivered per load, and economic weakness in Brazil will
cause it to report a wider than expected first quarter loss. The company expects to
lose $3.5-$4.5 million. Analysts were expecting a loss of $400,000. BASSET FURNITURE INDUSTRIES (BSET, 22.25)- The furniture maker reported preliminary first quarter revenues of $99.8
million and expects to earn $0.34 a share in the quarter.
GILLETTE (G, 57.75)- The razor maker warned that weakness in Brazil and in its Braun business
will cause it to miss analysts' first quarter estimates by 1 cent a share. The
company expects sales growth to be in the low single digits. The news will likely
put renewed pressure on the consumer product stocks in today's trading.
INT'L COMFORT PRODUCTS (ICP, 7.88)- The company warned that it will miss analysts' first quarter earnings
estimates. ICP cited lower than expected sales and restructuring charges for the
shortfall.
LERNOUT & HAUSPIE SPEECH PRODUCTS (LHSP,
37.88)- Intel will invest $30 million in the
company. The stock rose 2 1/2 in after hours trading on the news.
MEDIA ARTS GROUP (MDA, 9.94)- The company announced retail expansion plans and plans to establish an
Internet web site to sell its merchandise. The stock will rise on the mention of the
word "Internet" in its press release.
NATIONAL PROPANE PARTNERS (NPL, 6.81)- The company, controlled by Triarc, has agreed to be bought by a unit of
Columbia Energy for $12 a share.
TSR INC (TSRI, 6.81)- The computer consulting company reported third quarter earnings 2 cents
a share above expectations. Revenues rose 16% in the quarter. The shares are
down from 15 and should get a boost on the news. |

ALYDAAR SOFTWARE
(ALYD, 5.31)- The company warned that first quarter
revenues will be 29% below expectations. The software maker also restated 1998
earnings to $0.08 from $0.19 due to an accounting error. Alydaar's C.F.O. resigned
as a result of the error. ASPECT
DEVELOPMENT (ASDV, 22.41)- The company warned that
first quarter earnings and revenues will be significantly below current analyst estimates.
Aspect blamed delays in large contracts for the shortfall. The stock will be
hit this morning.
INFINIUM SOFTWARE (INFM, 4.38)- The software maker warned that as a result of a Y2K related slowdown in
corporate software expenditures, second quarter earnings will be 5 cents a share compared
to current analyst estimates of $0.10.
KOMAG (KMAG, 4.31)- The disk drive component maker warned that it will report a wider than
expected first quarter loss. The company expects revenues to decline 3%-5% in the
quarter because of continuing weakness in the disk drive industry.
LEXMARK INT'L (LXK, 109.13)- A story in this week's Barron's gives a $130 price target for the stock.
NATURAL MICROSYSTEMS (NMSS, 4.88)- The company warned that its first quarter loss will be wider than
current forecasts, and revenues will decline 15% in the quarter.
NETWORK EQUIPMENT TECHNOLOGIES (NWK, 8.94)- The company warned that it will lose 55 to 60 cents a share compared to
analysts estimates of a break even fourth quarter.
OBJECT DESIGN (ODIS, 5.38)- The company warned that it will report a first quarter loss due to weak
sales.
SKYTEL COMMUNICATIONS (SKYT, 15.13)- A story in this week's Business Week said the company is an attractive
acquisition target. |
