SYSTEMS INC (ADBE, 25)- The graphics software maker beat estimates by
five cents as its fourth quarter earnings rose 43.5% to 33 cents per
share. Revenues in the quarter increased 16.6%, but fell 7.4%
sequentially, to $329 million. The company warned that its second
quarter revenues growth will be lower than expected. The company now
sees second quarter revenues rising 15% from last year's levels.
ALLOY ONLINE INC (ALOY, 10)- The
teen-orientated Internet web site operator and apparel direct marketer
beat estimates by two cents as it reported a fourth quarter profit of four
cents per share, compared to last year's loss of 27 cents. Revenues
in the quarter jumped 151%, and 51% sequentially, to $42.5 million.
The company said it sees full year revenues of $140-$145 million.
CACHE INC (CACH, 4)- The women's
apparel retailer said its fourth quarter earnings fell to 11 cents per
share from last year's 27 cents. Revenues in the quarter rose 6.2%
to $53.74 million, and same store sales increased 2%.
COMPAQ COMPUTER (CPQ, 18.50)- The
computer maker warned that first quarter results will fall short of
expectations. The company now sees revenues in the quarter falling
4% to $9-9.2 billion, and expects to report earnings of $0.12-$0.14 per
share. Analysts were looking for the company to earn 20 cents.
The company said it will take a restructuring charge of $125-$150 million,
and will cut 7% of its workforce, or 5,000 employees. The company
sees the restructuring moves yielding $500-$600 million in annual savings.
ENBRIDGE INC (ENBR, 25)- The
energy pipeline operator has agreed to acquire natural gas pipeline
operator Midcoast Energy (MRS, 25.20) in a $600 million deal.
Under the terms of the deal, MRS shareholders will receive $27 in cash per
share. Enbridge expects the deal to be accretive to 2002 earnings.

OSHKOSH TRUCK CO (OTRKB, 46)- The
specialty truck maker warned that second quarter and full year earnings
will fall short of expectations due to weakness in its concrete placement
segment. The company now sees second quarter earnings of $0.65-$0.70
per share, and full year earnings of $2.80-$3.00, compared to analysts'
expectations of 77 cents and $3.47, respectively.
TEKTRONIX INC (TEK, 24.66)- The
maker of test and measurement equipment beat estimates by five cents as
its third quarter earnings jumped 76.2% to 37 cents per share.
Revenues in the quarter rose 20.8% to $326.9 million.
TEMPLE-INLAND INC (TIN, 44.70)-
The maker of packaging and building products warned that first quarter
earnings will fall short of expectations due to slower U.S. and global
economic growth. The company now sees earnings of 20 cents per
share, compared to analysts' estimates of 58 cents.

BREEZECOM LTD (BRZE,
7)- The maker of wireless access products warned that its first
quarter results will fall short of expectations. The company now
sees revenues of $23-$26 million and breakeven earnings. Analysts
were looking for the company to earn 10 cents. The company sees full
year earnings of $0.15-$0.20 per share, compared to analysts' estimates of
45 cents. The shares are down 0.25 in pre-open trading on the news.
COST PLUS INC (CPWM, 21)- The
retailer met expectations as its fourth quarter earnings rose 5.8% to 87
cents per share. Revenues in the quarter increased 23.4% to $206.7
million, and same store sales rose 2.1%.
HJ HEINZ CO (HNJ, 40.86)- The food maker
met lowered expectations as its third quarter earnings rose 3.2% to 65
cents per share. Revenues in the quarter slipped 1.1% to $2.27
billion.
KROGER CO (KR, 23.04)- The
supermarket operator met expectations as its fourth quarter earnings rose
30% to 48 cents per share, excluding one-time items. Revenues in the
quarter increased 12.9% to $12.7 billion, and same store sales rose 1.5%.
SHOPKO STORES (SKO, 8.00)- The
discount store operator beat estimates by eight cents as its fourth
quarter earnings slid 40.2% to $1.04 per share. Revenues in the
quarter increased 10.4% to $1.13 billion, and same store sales edged up
0.7%. Gross margins fell to 24.3% from last year's 27.4%.
SANDISK CORP (SNDK, 21)- The
maker of flash data storage products warned that first quarter results
will fall significantly short of expectations. The company now sees
first quarter revenues falling 45% sequentially to $85 million, compared
to previous estimates of a 15%-20% decline to $124-$131 million. The
company now sees breakeven earnings, compared to analysts' expectations of
a profit of 20 cents. The shares are down 2.50 in pre-open trading
on the news.
STEWART ENTERPRISES (STEI, 4)-
The provider of death care services and products reported flat first
quarter earnings of 16 cents per share. Revenues in the quarter
slipped 5.9% to $176.7 million.

ANADIGICS
INC (ANAD, 13.06)- The maker of broadband components warned that its
first quarter earnings will fall short of expectations. The company
now sees a loss of 14 cents per share, compared to analysts' estimates of
a loss of eight cents. The company said it expects the
"industry softness" to continue into the second quarter, and
said second quarter earnings could decline 25% sequentially from the first
quarter's expected $28.5 million.
BIOMET INC (BMET, 40)- The
medical devices maker beat estimates by a penny as its third quarter
earnings rose 24% to 31 cents per share. Revenues in the quarter
increased 14.3% to $266.3 million.
HOT TOPIC INC (HOTT, 27.06)- The
retailer of music influenced apparel beat estimates by two cents as its
fourth quarter earnings rose 33% to 48 cents per share. Revenues in
the quarter increased 48% to $88.4 million, and same store sales rose
11.2%.
KIMBALL INTERNATIONAL (KBALB, 15)-
The maker of furniture and cabinets warned that its third quarter earnings
will fall short of expectations due to weaker than expected sales and
economic growth. The company now sees earnings of $0.16-$0.20 per
share. Analysts were looking for flat earnings of 29 cents per
share.
MET LIFE INC (MET, 31.68)- The
insurer warned that first quarter earnings will fall short of expectations
due to higher claims in its auto and home insurance segments. The
company now sees earnings of $0.47 per share, compared to analysts'
estimates of $0.52.
TALBOTS INC (TLB, 44.60)- The
women's apparel retailer beat estimates by a penny as its fourth quarter
earnings jumped 113% to 51 cents per share. Revenues in the quarter
rose 24% to $473.1 million, and same store sales increased 12.8%.
Separately, the company announced a $100 million stock buyback.
WILLIAMS-SONOMA INC (WSM, 26.32)-
The home products retailer beat estimates by a penny as its fourth quarter
earnings fell 3.7% to 79 cents per share. Revenues in the quarter
rose 19% to $673.2 million, and same store sales increased 3.5%.

BASSETT FURNITURE (BSET,
14)- The home furnishings maker warned that its first quarter results
will fall short of expectations due to slowing economic conditions.
The company now sees revenues falling 13% from last year's first quarter,
and expects to report earnings of 30 cents per share. Analysts were
looking for the company to earn 32 cents.
CIT GROUP INC (CIT, 22.75)- The
commercial finance company has agreed to be acquired by conglomerate Tyco
International (TYC, 50.70) for $9.2 billion in an all-stock deal.
Under the terms of the deal, CIT shareholders will receive 0.6907 shares
of TYC for each share held, valuing each CIT share at approximately
$35.02.

GENERAL ELECTRIC CO (GE, 39.60)-
The company said it expects to meet analysts' first quarter estimates of
30 cents per share. The company also said it now sees more than $3
billion in annual synergies from its recent Honeywell acquisition,
compared to original estimates of $1.5 billion.
NPC INTERNATIONAL (NPCI, 10.19)-
The operator of Pizza Hut franchises warned that its fourth quarter
earnings will fall short of expectations. The company now sees
earnings of $0.26-$0.28 per share, compared to analysts' estimates of 30
cents. The company attributed the shortfall to lower than expected
same store sales growth. The company also said February same store
sales rose 0.8%.
STANFORD MICRODEVICES (SMDI, 9.06)-
The maker of wireless components warned that its first quarter results
will fall short of expectations due to slower telecom industry spending.
The company now sees revenues falling to $7.6-$7.8 million from the fourth
quarter's $10.7 million, and expects to report breakeven earnings.
Analysts were looking for a profit of five cents per share.

ALLIANCE
SEMICONDUCTOR (ALSC, 12.43)- The semiconductor maker warned that
fourth quarter results will fall short of expectations. The company
now sees fourth quarter revenues falling 45%-50% below the third quarter's
$63.8 million.
AMERISTAR CASINOS (ASCA, 6.31)-
The casino operator beat estimates by two cents as its fourth quarter
earnings rose to four cents per share, excluding one-time items, compared
to last year's loss of four cents. Revenues in the quarter rose
17.3% to $89.6 million.
CROWN GROUP INC (CNGR, 3.81)- The
operator of used car dealerships said its third quarter earnings fell to
13 cents per share from last year's 16 cents. Revenues in the
quarter rose 36% to $80.1 million.
DIODES INC (DIOD, 10.06)- The
chipmaker warned that first quarter results will fall short of
expectations. The company sees net income of $500,000, compared to
the fourth quarter's $2.8 million (46 cents per share). Analysts
were looking for the company to earn 27 cents in the quarter. The
company attributed the shortfall to an "industry-wide slowdown".
HOLLY CORP (HOC, 23.80)- The oil
refiner reported second quarter earnings of $1.66 per share, compared to
last year's loss of 59 cents. Revenues in the quarter rose 29.6% to
$283.14 million.
MIDWAY AIRLINES (MDWY, 4.34)- The
airline reported a fourth quarter loss of 42 cents per share, compared to
last year's profit of 12 cents. Revenues in the quarter rose 32% to
$76.7 million. The company attributed the loss to increased
competition, higher fuel costs, and severe weather.
PARK-OHIO HOLDINGS (PKOH, 5.43)-
The maker of industrial components missed estimates by 26 cents as it
reported a fourth quarter loss of five cents per share, compared to last
year's profit of 33 cents. Revenues in the quarter declined 4.4% to
$172.85 million.
