DELHAIZE AMERICA (DZA,
16.68)- The grocery operator beat estimates by two cents as fourth
quarter earnings rose 22.6% to 65 cents per share. Revenues
increased 6.2% to $3.38 billion in the quarter, and same store sales
inched up 0.8%. The company said it will raise its quarterly
dividend by 14.5% to $0.1443 per share.
NEWPORT CORP (NEWP,
112.13)- The maker of test and measurement equipment for the fiber
optic and semiconductor industries plans to raise its semi-annual dividend
to 3 cents from the present two. The company also announced a 3 for
1 stock split. The shares jumped 15.88 in after hours trading on the
split news.
TOLLGRADE COMMUNICATIONS (TLGD,
77.88)- The maker of telecom testing and status monitoring equipment
announced a 2 for 1 stock split. The shares gained 3.13 in after
hours trading on the news.
TRIQUINT SEMICONDUCTOR (TQNT,
227.94)- The maker of semiconductors for wireless equipment beat
estimates by 11 cents as fourth quarter earnings rose 196% to 48 cents per
share. Revenues increased 60% to $49.4 million in the quarter.
The shares gained 13 in after hours trading on the news.
VLASIC FOODS INTERNATIONAL (VL,
4)- The pickle maker warned that it will report a fourth quarter loss
of $0.32-$0.36 per share. Analysts were looking for a profit of
seven cents. The company also announced a restructuring that will
result in the elimination of 20% of the jobs at its headquarters.
Vlasic will take a charge of $0.02 per share to cover the costs of the
restructuring. The company said it plans to explore strategic
alternatives to enhance shareholder value. |

APPNET INC (APNT,
51.38)- The Internet based interactive marketing agency beat estimates
by two cents as fourth quarter earnings rose to five cents per share from
last year's loss of seven cents. Revenues increased 60% to $34.9
million in the quarter. The shares rose 1.13 in after hours trading
on the news.
CREDENCE SYSTEMS CORP (CMOS,
103.25)- The semiconductor equipment maker beat estimates by 22 cents
as first quarter earnings rose to 71 cents per share. The company lost 32
cents in last year's first quarter. Revenues increased 284%, and 27%
sequentially, to $101.8 million in the quarter. The company said
gross margins in the quarter improved to 57.7% from last year's
42.3%. The shares soared 16.75 to 120 in after hours trading on the
news.
FOX ENTERTAINMENT GROUP (FOX,
28.88)- The cable, film, and TV network operator beat estimates by
four cents as second quarter earnings declined to 13 cents from last
year's 17 cents. Revenues fell 7.7% to $2.4 billion in the quarter.
FREESHOP.COM INC (FSHP,
41.43)- The Internet direct marketing network beat estimates by 10
cents as it reported a Fourth quarter loss of 23 cents per share,
compared to last year's loss of 14 cents. Revenues increased 70%
sequentially to $4.1 million in the quarter.
NEWS CORP (NWS,
57.68)- The media and entertainment company met expectations as second
quarter earnings declined 26.5% to 25 cents per share.
RAINFOREST CAFE (RAIN,
4.38)- The theme restaurant operator has agreed to be acquired by Landry's
Seafood Restaurants (LNY,
9.81) for $125 million (approximately $5.50 per share) in a cash and
stock deal. RAIN shares rose 0.81 in after hours trading on the
news.
TRICON GLOBAL RESTAURANTS (YUM,
29.94)- The restaurant operator beat estimates by 13 cents as fourth
quarter earnings rose 42% to 78 cents per share. Fourth quarter
revenues fell 8% to $2.3 billion. Total system restaurant sales
increased 7% to $6.9 billion in the quarter. |

ALLEGIANCE TELECOM (ALGX,
124.94)- The telecom service provider missed estimates by two cents as
it reported a fourth quarter loss of 93 cents per share, compared to last
year's loss of 79 cents. Revenues increased 22% sequentially from
the third quarter to $39.3 million. Separately, the company
announced a 3 for 2 stock split.
CHIRON CORP (CHIR,
53)- The biotech met expectations as fourth quarter earnings from
continuing operations rose 75% to 14 cents per share. The shares
slipped one point in after hours trading on the news.
CISCO SYSTEMS INC (CSCO,
125.81)- The networking company beat estimates by a penny as second
quarter earnings rose by a penny to 25 cents per share. Revenues
increased 53% to $4.35 billion in the quarter. The company also
announced a 2 for 1 stock split. The shares rose 6.57 in after hours
trading on the news.
FLIR SYSTEMS (FLIR,
7.88)- The maker of thermal imaging systems warned that fourth quarter
revenues and earnings will fall short of expectations. The company
now sees revenues of $57 million and earnings of $0.57-$0.62 per
share. Analysts were looking for the company to make 87 cents.
The company attributed the shortfall to a component shortage and delays in
finalizing a contract.
QUESTAR CORP (STR,
15)- The natural gas company beat fourth quarter estimates by 11 cents
as earnings rose to 59 cents per share, excluding writedowns, from last
year's 39 cents. Revenues increased 3.2% to $285 million in the

shares begin trading on NASDAQ today.
COX RADIO INC (CXR,
85.50)- The radio station operator beat estimates by two cents as
fourth quarter earnings rose to 30 cents per share from last year's 24
cents. Revenues increased 15.5% to $81.8 million in the
quarter. The company aid broadcast cash flow rose 23.1% to $32.9
million in the quarter.
DUANE READE (DRD,
28.81)- The New York drug store operator beat estimates by three cents
as fourth quarter earnings rose 26.7% to 38 cents per share.
Revenues increased 21.7% to $229.6 million in the quarter. The
company aid same store sales rose 11.6% from last year's third
quarter. Fourth quarter gross margins rose to 27.9% from the third
quarter's 26.6%. The company said it expects to open 15 to 20 new
stores in fiscal 2000.
FOUNDRY NETWORKS (FDRY,
130.88)- The networking company said it will release 5.1 million
shares from post-IPO lockup restrictions on February 10th. The
shares tumbled 9.88 in after hours trading on the news.
LA-Z-BOY INC (LZB,
14.19)- The furniture maker beat estimates by a penny as third quarter
earnings rose 24% to 41 cents per share. Revenues increased 18% to
$376.9 million in the quarter.
SEGUE SOFTWARE INC (SEGU,
8.31)- The e-business software maker warned that fourth quarter
revenues and earnings will fall short of expectations due to a Y2K related
slowdown. The company now sees a loss of 13 to 16 cents per share in
the quarter, compared to analysts' expectations of a loss of four
cents. Segue expects revenues in the quarter to be sequentially flat
at $12.9-$13.2 million.
US FOODSERVICE (UFS,
12.38)- The food distributor said January revenues rose 13% from last
year. The company also announced a restructuring that will result in
workforce reductions and the closing of the company's San Francisco
distribution business. The company expects the restructuring to
produce $15 million in annual costs. |

BATTLE MOUNTAIN GOLD (BMG,
2.50)- The gold miner missed estimates by four cents as it reported a
wider than expected fourth quarter loss of six cents per share, excluding
charges. The company attributed the loss to lower gold prices.
The company said second half 1999 cash flow increased to $28.1 million
from $2.6 million in the first half.
BNC MORTGAGE INC (BNCM,
8.97)- The sub-prime loan originator beat estimates by a penny as
second quarter earnings fell 42.5% to 23 cents per share.
BOYD BROTHERS TRANSPORTATION (BOYD,
7.13)- The trucking company missed estimates by seven cents as fourth
quarter earnings fell 40% to 12 cents per share. Revenues increased
16% to $34.38 million in the quarter. The company attributed the
drop in profits to higher fuel costs, and said first quarter results could
also feel the impact of rising fuel prices.
CASTLE & COOKE INC (CCS,
12.06)- The residential real estate developer beat estimates by five
cents as fourth quarter earnings slipped by a penny to 15 cents per
share. Revenues increased 9% to $90.3 million in the quarter.
DELTA AIR LINES (DAL,
47.75)- The airline said its January load factor fell to 62.4% from
December's 64.9%. Delta said its domestic traffic fell 4.5% during
the month.
DESIGNS INC (DESI,
1.43)- The apparel retailer said January same store sales rose 1%, and
total sales rose 3.5% to $9 million.
FMC CORPORATION (FMC,
52.56)- The machinery and chemicals maker has offered to acquire
machine vision system maker Advanced Machine Vision Corp (AMVC,
1.09) for $1.75 per share in a $27 million deal.
MERANT PLC (MRNT,
39)- The enterprise software maker warned that third quarter earnings
will fall short of expectations due to delays in completing contracts and
severe weather in late January. The company now sees revenues of
$87-$89 million and earnings of $0.08-$0.12 in the quarter. Analysts
were looking for the company to earn 25 cents in the quarter.
MERCURY GENERAL CORP (MCY,
23.69)- The auto insurer said fourth quarter earnings fell to 65 cents
per share from last's 73 cents. Net premiums written rose 3.9% to
$298.4 million.
ROBERTSON-CECO CORP (RHH,
9.81)- The maker of metal buildings said fourth quarter earnings rose
9.5% to 42 cents per share. Revenues inched up 0.4% to $80.14
