Let's look at Microsoft Corp., (NASDAQ: MSFT).
Over the last week, MSFT has been range bound between 93 and 96.
The markets in general, the markets have been whipsawing traders over the
past week.
When the markets are in a tight range, the stock and market has a real
battle going on between buyers and sellers. The breakout of a trading range
can establish a new trend in the direction of the breakout.
The way to play a stock with pattern would be to place orders above
resistance to Buy and under support to establish a Short position.
An economic number being released can help establish the new trend in the
stock.
In MSFT, placing a Buy Stop order at 96 and a Short Sale order at 93 would
do this.
The stop should be placed at the other pivot point and move according to
market conditions.
